Privacy Policy

Sweetwater Labs LLC ("Loft," "we," "us," "our") operates the Loft rental listing platform at tryloft.city and the Loft iOS application. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and share information when you use the Platform.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide:

  • Account information: Name, email address, phone number, and profile photo when you create an account.
  • Listing content: Property videos, photos, descriptions, pricing, and location information you submit.
  • Verification documents: Lease agreements, property deeds, tax bills, or real estate license documents submitted for verification. Stored securely and accessed only by authorized Loft staff.
  • License information: Real estate license numbers submitted by brokers for verification against public state records.
  • Communications: Messages sent between users through the Platform.
  • Application data: Rental applications submitted through the Platform.

Information collected automatically:

  • Behavioral and engagement data: Listings viewed and skipped, interaction type and timing (likes, saves, comments, shares), video pause/play behavior, zoom gestures, time spent on listings, feed scroll patterns, filter usage, and navigation within the app. We use this data to build a personalized preference profile (including inferred preferences for neighborhoods, bedroom count, price range, and listing type) to rank your feed.
  • Device information: Device type, operating system version, app version, and device identifiers used for push notifications and fraud prevention.
  • Location: City or neighborhood-level location, used to show relevant listings. When you search for an address or use the map view, that address or location data is sent to Mapbox for geocoding and map display. Mapbox may collect telemetry and location data through its SDK per Mapbox's Privacy Policy.
  • Push notification tokens: Device tokens used to send notifications about messages, applications, and listing activity. You can opt out in device settings at any time.
  • Authentication and security data: Clerk, our authentication provider, collects device fingerprinting data and session information to verify your identity and prevent unauthorized access. See Clerk's Privacy Policy.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To operate the Platform and display listings to renters;
  • To personalize your feed based on your browsing and interaction history;
  • To verify broker license numbers against public NY DOS records;
  • To review verification documents submitted by listers;
  • To facilitate messages and rental applications between users;
  • To send push notifications about your listings and account activity;
  • To detect and prevent fraud, spam, and policy violations;
  • To improve the Platform through aggregated, anonymized analytics;
  • To comply with legal obligations.

3. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only in these circumstances:

  • With other users: Listing information (including lister name, profile, and contact preference) is visible to renters. Messages are shared with their recipients. Rental applications are shared with the listing owner.
  • Service providers: We use the following third-party services to operate the Platform. Each has its own privacy practices:
    • Supabase — database, file storage, and real-time messaging (United States). Listing data, user profiles, messages, and verification documents are stored here.
    • Clerk — authentication and identity management (United States). Handles sign-in, device verification, and session security.
    • Mux — video hosting, transcoding, and streaming (United States). Listing videos are uploaded to and streamed from Mux's CDN. Mux independently collects video playback analytics (play rate, buffering, engagement) per Mux's Privacy Policy.
    • Mapbox — maps, geocoding, and location search (United States). Address lookups and map interactions are processed by Mapbox, which may collect telemetry data per Mapbox's Privacy Policy.
    • Expo / EAS — app distribution and over-the-air updates (United States).
  • Legal requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Loft or others.
  • Business transfers: If Loft is acquired or merges with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction.

4. Public Listings

Listing content (videos, photos, descriptions, pricing, neighborhood, lister display name, and verification status) is publicly visible on the Platform and may be indexed by search engines or shared via links. Do not include personal information in listing content that you do not wish to be public.

5. Verification Documents

Verification documents (lease agreements, deeds, license documents) are stored in a private Supabase storage bucket. They are not publicly accessible and are only reviewed by authorized Loft staff for the purpose of verifying your listing eligibility. Documents are retained for 2 years after your account is closed, then deleted.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and listing data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law or to resolve disputes. Anonymized analytics data may be retained indefinitely.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you;
  • Request correction of inaccurate information;
  • Request deletion of your account and associated data;
  • Opt out of push notifications (via device settings);
  • California residents: opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell or share for cross-context advertising).

8. Security

We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), row-level security on our database, and private storage buckets for sensitive documents. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Children

The Platform is not directed to children under 18. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes through the app or by email. Continued use of the Platform after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
